The theme of the Society for the Social History of Medicine biennial conference is ‘In/Out’, it takes place at the University of Leeds, UK, 30 June to 3 July 2026. In broad terms it aims to explore perceptions of being ‘in good health’, and to question if medical care was accessed during illness, or if people were more likely to manage outside of institutions. SSHM 2026 is particularly interested in papers that examine health inequalities, which naturally aligns with GREATLeap aims and objectives. We seek papers to populate a panel focusing on ‘location of death’ (domestic or hospital settings), the related matter of medical certification of cause, and the degree to which they serve as indicators of personal health care or neglect.
Please forward titles and abstracts of 250 to Ciara.breathnach@ucc.ie by 15 December 2025.
